SME export sentiment: stable despite ongoing crises

Latest S-GE survey points to robust export prospects

Export sentiment among Swiss SMEs remains stable in the second half of 2026. The latest survey by Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) shows that, despite a challenging international environment, many companies are expecting exports to continue to grow.

Export industry proving to be resilient

Export sentiment remains firmly in positive territory and has barely changed compared to the start of the year. Around half of the companies surveyed expect exports to rise over the next six months. The Swiss export industry is therefore remarkably robust despite the challenging overall conditions.

A focus on new challenges

As US tariff policy is currently becoming slightly less of an issue, companies are focusing even more strongly on other factors. The strong Swiss franc continues to be the main challenge. At the same time, rising energy and raw material prices as well as potential supply chain disruptions due to the geopolitical situation are gaining in importance.

Europe remains key – Asia becoming increasingly relevant

Europa remains the largest sales market for Swiss SMEs. Germany continues to top the list of export destinations, while the US is still the largest market outside Europe. When entering new markets, many companies are increasingly turning their attention towards Asia however – in particular India, South Korea and Japan.

About the survey

SME export sentiment among around 200 international Swiss SMEs is assessed twice a year by Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) and an overview is provided into the expectations and challenges within the export industry.
