Morocco: a dynamic market for Swiss exporters

SERV country expert Olga Tschekassin reports on the promising Moroccan market

Morocco, situated in north-western Africa, offers a wealth of opportunities for Swiss companies. The country benefits from financial support from the World Bank, the EU and the European Investment Bank. New economic reforms are aimed at diversifying the economy and attracting more foreign investors.

“With its strong economic sectors, which include agriculture, mining, industry, tourism and services, Morocco is an attractive export partner for international trade,” summarises SERV country expert Olga Tschekassin.

Swiss innovation in demand

Morocco is focusing increasingly on renewable energy and infrastructure development. This is where Swiss technology comes into play. Solutions for water management and for solar and wind energy are particularly sought after. The industries that supply the automotive and aerospace sectors are also growing and offer potential for Swiss companies.

Opportunities from reconstruction

After a devastating earthquake in the autumn of 2023, Morocco is working hard to rebuild the country. The reconstruction is opening up additional opportunities for international companies to help out while strengthening their market position. “Despite rising national debt, high unemployment, social inequality and a reliance on the agricultural sector, Morocco’s economy is experiencing robust growth,” says Olga Tschekassin. With projected growth of around three to four per cent, she believes the economic outlook for Morocco is positive.
