When taking account of environmental aspects in connection with export risk insurance, SERV relies on international standards and agreements, particularly the OECD's environmental recommendations that entered into force in January 2004. These recommendations contain clear instructions for reviewing environmental aspects when assessing applications for an insurance commitment in principle.

Projects in sensitive sectors and/or at sensitive locations are subject to an in-depth analysis, in the first instance through completion of the Environmental Questionnaire. This should identify environmentally problematical projects and highlight any measures that can be taken to increase environmental compatibility.
